The Rhew Farm was started in 1973 by Frank Rhew and his father Frank Rhew Sr., originally as a cattle and hay operation. For diversification Frank and his wife Ann began adding peach and pecan trees in the early 1980's. There are approximately 10,000 trees in the orchards at present. Their son, Rudd, his wife, Judy, and children, James and Allison are active in the operation.
In the beginning we experimented with over 100 varieties of peaches from all parts of the world. But, thanks to the efforts of Dr. Dave Byrne's peach breeding program at Texas A&M University, we now have suitable varieties for our southern location, that ripen from mid-April through June. We like to say, "We grow peaches bred and raised in Texas for Texans".
We welcome visitors to Rhew Orchard House during peach season or pecan season!
